Earlier this week, the United States

Federal Update: CDC
to Revisit Dog
Importation Rules in
2025
Wednesday, December 18, 2024
The U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) has
provided public notice that it will
propose revisions and certifications
to the requirements for the
importation of dogs that it finalized
earlier in 2024.
The dog import rule that was
implemented last August was
designed to limit the public health
risk of dogs being imported into the
U.S. with DMRVV (canine rabies).
The American Kennel Club (AKC)
strongly supports the intent of
protecting pet and public health, but
remains concerned that the 2024
rule is overly broad and fails to
recognize the range of factors that
contribute to or mitigate actual risk.
AKC continues to work with diverse
groups of stakeholders and
lawmakers to express these
concerns.

Fun, Food, and Frivolity – All Dogs are Welcome!
Are you or your dog looking for something to do together between September 4th and the 7th? Is
the usual neighborhood walk getting you nowhere? Has your dog taken up the habit of barking and
digging in the yard out of boredom? Could it be that you and your dog just need a little more
bonding time or a few days of plain ole’ fun? If you answer YES to any of these, we have the
answer!
Once again, Warren County Kennel Club and The German Shepherd Dog Club of Greater Cincinnati
presented “Dog-OH-Rama”, a four-day set of athletic, behavior, education, and entertainment events
focused on DOGS, with plenty of opportunities for both you and your dog to enjoy! What sorts of
things did we offer? Here’s a list of family friendly fun we have planned: AKC FastCAT® (Coursing
Ability Test), AKC testing including Temperament, Farm Dog (TBD), Fetch, Canine Good Citizen
(CGC), Trick Dog, etc. [CLICK HERE] for more information.
By the way, there was a separate non-AKC dock diving event on that Friday through Sunday of the
same weekend right there in Armco Park presented by Ultimate Air Dogs. Best of all, the planning
has begun for the 2026 event, so come to our meeting and get in on the beginning of the fun.
WCKC 50th Anniversary History Project
Two years ago when we bought our new trailer, while cleaning out the old one we came across
some old binders filled with win pictures. They were from three shows and two fun matches from
1994, 1996, and 1997. While interesting to flip through, it dawned on many of us…We didn’t
recognize any of the people in the pictures.
That’s where you come in. Granted, our membership can identify a few faces here and there, but
the vast majority of these people are lost to history. However, you might see someone in them that
you recognize, be they an exhibitor, judge, bystander, or maybe even a dog or two. So, click on the
“History Project” link above and take a look to see if you can put a name to a face. There is a button
on each page that will take you to a form to enter your identification…or at least best guess. And, of
course, we thank you for your participation in the project.
Another Drum Roll Please…
Once again, WCKC will be honored to present the AKC’s National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS)
Regional Event. This is a very prestigious honor for those clubs hosting these shows in preparation
for the series finals in Orlando, FL in 2026.
In March of 2026, Warren County Kennel Club will present the NOHS show on Friday before our
regular conformation shows. Frankly, we couldn’t be more pleased and proud to be the only AKC
club to be honored to hold this event twice. So, if you’re an owner-handler looking to participate in
the national NOHS event, we hope you will come and join us in March and make WCKC a part of
your journey to Orlando.
If you’re curious as to what the NOHS is all about, [Click Here] for more information.
Looking Back and Looking Forward
On March 29th through the 30th, 2025, Warren County Kennel Club held our 50th anniversary
conformation shows at the Roberts Centre in Wilmington, Ohio. We ran eight conformation rings,
along with Farm Dog and Fetch events as well. Moreover, on Friday, we hosted one of the eight
National Owner Handler Series (NOHS) Regional events leading up to the NOHS Finals in Orlando
Florida.
While the 2025 shows were fun, we are now well under weigh to get ready for 2026. We are already
holding Show Committee meetings and are discussing next year’s fun at our regular meetings. So, if
you have ever thought of getting involved behind the scenes of a conformation show, you are more
than welcome and absolutely invited to join us now. For more information, come to our regular
meeting where we give our regular updates.
Calling All Dog Lovers
The past few years have been tough on WCKC and the dog sport in general. While performance
events such as Agility, Fast CAT, and Rally Obedience are holding their own or growing,
Conformation numbers are dropping considerably. This includes the interest in joining dog clubs,
leading some clubs to simply close their doors.
To attempt to reverse the trend, WCKC is always looking for new members to hopefully bring new life
into our club. And we’re not just talking Conformation only. We’re open to all venues and are
licensed by AKC for Conformation, Obedience, Rally-Obedience, and Fast CAT. So, if you’re into
any of those venues…or even if you just like dogs and want to come hang out with a bunch of crazy
dog people, come join us and see what we’re all about. The meeting time and location for our next
meeting is posted on the Events page and we sure would like to see you there.
